Rytířka Oltáře Cassandra se poté, co je Krvavými mágy zavražděn její přítel a mentor, rytíř Byron, vydává na strastiplnou a nebezpečnou misi, jejímž cílem je záchrana země Orlais. S pomocí Galyana, mága kruhu, se snaží najít malou efí dívku Avexis, kterou chtějí Krvaví mágové využít ke zničení Oltáře, čímž by byla nastolena absolutní moc mágů nad celým světem. Vše je zkomplikováno tím, že mezi rytíři a členy Oltáře jsou zrádci, kteří jsou spolčeni s Krvavým mágem Frenicem. Dokáží Cassandra a Galyan včas zachránit Avexis a tím odvrátit zkázu Oltáře?
